Up until 1923 the figure of the coach did not practically exist. It was just before the start of the 1923-24 season when the club hired a Czech manager, Antonin Fivebr, who was the responsible for giving an international prestige to the Mestalla club. The coach did a good job as he made a point of promoting young players, right in a moment when professionalism was little by little dominating the sport.
